Zantac is an antihistamine medication used to prevent release of acid from stomach. It is used in treatment of stomach or intestinal ulcer pain and discomfort and heartburn from acid reflux. Ranitidine is active component of Zantac and is available in 25 mg, 150 mg and 300 mg syrup and tablets.

Zantac is competitive and reversible, histamine type-2 receptor antagonists (also called as H2 blockers). It acts by preventing the activation of acid production thereby indirectly reducing stomach acidity. Zantac also relieves heartburn associated with acid indigestion and sour stomach.
Zantac can be taken at the same time daily with or without food. Zantac dosage depends upon severity of condition.
150 mg or 2 tsp of Zantac syrup per day at bedtime is usually recommended for healing duodenal and gastric ulcers. For stomach ulcer, GERD or erosive esophagitis, usual dose of 150 mg or 2 tsp of Zantac syrup twice a day is taken.
Zantac causes Strong, fast and long lasting relief of heart burn and also used in majority of stomach acidity problems.
Less serious side effects of Zantac include severe headache, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, stomach pain, drowsy and dizzy feeling.
While serious side effects such as chest pain, sore throat, skin rash, shortness of breath, heart rate changes, jaundice, dark urine, clay-colored stools, loss of appetite and allergic reactions may occur on Zantac treatment.
