TAMOXIFEN ACTION MECHANISM
Tamoxifen (antiestrogen or Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM)) acts by competitively binding to estrogen receptors present on tumors and other tissue targets, producing a nuclear complex which decreases synthesis of DNA, thereby inhibiting effects of estrogen. Tamoxifen is cytostatic (prevents (pre)cancerous cells from dividing) and not cytocidal (does not cause cell death).
