PROTONIX ACTION MECHANISM
Protonix covalently binds to (H+, K+)-ATPase enzyme system present on surface of gastric parietal cell thereby suppressing final step in gastric acid production, resulting in inhibition of both basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion irrespective of stimulus.
PROTONIX DOSAGE
Protonix dosage depends on type and severity of disease. Protonix is available as oral suspension of 40 mg and as tablet in two strengths namely 20 mg and 40 mg and recommended without food for better results.
Recommended Protonix dosage for gastroesophageal reflux disease with history of erosive esophagitis is 40 mg per day for 7 to 10 days intravenously.
