IBUPROFEN ACTION MECHANISM
Ibuprofen is thought to work by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, specifically inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) production. Ibuprofen causes analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activity through COX-2 inhibition and unwanted effects on platelet aggregation and GI mucosa occurs through COX-1 inhibition.
IBUPROFEN DOSAGE
Usual adult ibuprofen dosage for dysmenorrhea is 200mg - 400mg orally for every 4 to 6 hours. While usual adult ibuprofen dose for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis is 400mg - 800 mg orally taken every 6 to 8 hours or as directed by your doctor. Ibuprofen can be taken with food or milk or with a glass of water.
IBUPROFEN ADVANTAGES
Ibuprofen is known to have an effective activity as antiplatelet agent and also as vasodilator, in addition to its pain relieving activity.
IBUPROFEN SIDE EFFECTS
Less serious ibuprofen side effects include dizziness, headache, nervousness, diarrhea or constipation; mild heartburn, skin itching or rash, blurred vision, ringing in your ears or stomach upset.
While serious side effects of ibuprofen that require urgent medical help include chest pain, shortness of breath, bloody, or tarry stools, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice, bruising skin, severe tingling or numbness, muscle weakness and convulsions.
